Scan a cover and fix recognition problems

Check camera access, your location, and the nearby cover design.

A capture needs both a recognized design and a matching on-site location.

  1. Go to the real cover and open Scan.
  2. Allow camera and location access. If previously denied, review Manhole Quest permissions in iPhone Settings.
  3. Point the camera at the cover and keep it steady while nearby reference designs load.
  4. Check the on-screen tracking, GPS, and target-distance information if recognition does not complete.

Reference preparation starts within 250 metres of a known cover. A capture normally needs a distance of 75 metres or less; GPS accuracy may widen that allowance, but not beyond 250 metres. A different design or a photo scanned from another location will not count.

A successful capture opens its Album entry. Scanning an already collected cover opens the existing entry rather than creating a duplicate.

Assisted Scan

Normal recognition runs on device. If you choose to submit an Assisted Scan report, review the consent first: it sends a fresh cover photo, precise location, the selected cover, and diagnostics. See the privacy policy.
